Study Abroad Intake Calendar for Nepali Students: When to Start What (2026–2027)
Most students plan forwards (“I’ll take IELTS, then see”). Intakes are won by planning backwards — from the intake month, through visa processing, applications, tests, and money. Here is the full calendar, then the backwards math.
Intake months by country
| Country | Major intakes | Minor intakes | Apply how early |
|---|---|---|---|
| 🇦🇺 Australia | Feb, Jul | Nov (some) | 6–9 months |
| 🇨🇦 Canada | Sep, Jan | May | 8–12 months (caps = earlier) |
| 🇬🇧 UK | Sep | Jan | 6–9 months |
| 🇺🇸 USA | Aug | Jan | 10–14 months (12+ if chasing scholarships) |
| 🇯🇵 Japan | Apr, Oct | Jan, Jul | 6–8 months (CoE takes 2–3) |
| 🇰🇷 South Korea | Mar, Sep | Jun, Dec | 4–6 months |
| 🇩🇪 Germany | Oct | Apr | 12+ months (embassy slots!) |
| 🇳🇿 New Zealand | Feb, Jul | — | 6–9 months |
The backwards timeline (any country)
Count back from your intake month:
- Intake − 1 month: flights booked, accommodation arranged, forex done, pre-departure briefing
- Intake − 2 to 4 months: visa lodged (USA: interview; Japan/Korea: CoE/CoA filed by school earlier)
- Intake − 4 to 5 months: offer accepted, deposit paid, NOC obtained (guide), funds finalized — loan sanctioned and money seasoned (loan guide)
- Intake − 5 to 7 months: applications submitted to 3+ institutions; SOP/GS statement drafted (GS guide)
- Intake − 7 to 9 months: English/language test taken (IELTS vs PTE); shortlist built; loan pre-assessment started in parallel
- Intake − 9 to 12 months: country decision made — the step most students rush and most regret. Three minutes on the Abroad Report is the cheap way to do it properly.
What this means if you’re reading this in July 2026
- Australia Feb 2027: you’re in the application window right now. Test this month, applications by September, visa by November–December.
- Canada Sep 2027: start now — under the caps, early files get the PAL and processing slack that late files don’t.
- UK Sep 2027: comfortable if tests are done by early 2027; January 2027 UK intake is only realistic if your score and funds are already in hand.
- USA Aug 2027: scholarship hunters should already be drafting essays; deadlines land December 2026–February 2027.
- Japan Apr 2027: language schools close applications ~October 2026 — start JLPT N5/NAT prep immediately.
- Korea Mar 2027: application season is roughly October–December 2026. The quarterly cycle means the next bus is never far.
- Germany Oct 2027: book the embassy appointment mindset now — 12-month runways are normal, and Studienkolleg adds more if you’re entering after +2.
The three timeline killers
- The loan started after the offer letter. Runs 3–8 weeks plus seasoning; kills more intakes than refusals do.
- The test taken “when I’m ready.” Readiness is discovered by testing. Book a date; let the date create the readiness.
- The country decided last. Every downstream document — test type, funds format, statement — depends on it. Decide first.
Bottom line: pick the intake, subtract the months, and put the dates in your phone today. If the math says you’re late for the next intake, aim for the one after with a strong file — a rushed file that gets refused costs more time than waiting ever did.
